A strong natural looking solution to replace your missing teeth

What is a Dental Implant?

dental implant is simply a pure titanium “root” which is placed into the jawbone to replace a missing tooth/teeth. This type of metal used in dental implants has been used in surgical procedures for many many years. This material is perfectly compatible with the body and over time becomes completely integrated with the bone tissue. Here at Pearl Smile Dentist, we only use the very best Dental Implants, fitted by our Specialist Implant Surgeon.

Are Dental Implants painful?

The idea of having something screwed into your jawbone may sound painful, the procedure is done using a local anaesthetic which means the level of discomfort felt should be the same as during a standard filling. Patients should be able to return their normal daily lives immediately after the procedure.

Why should I need a Dental Implant?

Dental implants are used to replace missing teeth or secure loose dentures and bridges.

What are the other benefits?

The replacement tooth will look natural and be extremely strong. It will give you the confidence to smile and eat any food that you would normally with your regular teeth. You will no longer need to worry about revealing a gap in your teeth or that your dentures may become loose or even worse, fall out. Dental implants actually help preserve your natural bone which avoids having a sunken appearance if you have lost a number of teeth.

What happens during the process of having Dental Implants?

We start with an assessment with x-rays or scans to understand if the mouth is in good health to take a dental implant. Any issues will be treated before to ensure the best chance of success. The dental implant is placed into the jawbone and left to integrate with the surrounding bone. Once the implant has settled in, a crown, bridge or denture can be made to fix onto the implant. This process can take between 6 weeks to 6 months depending on the situation.

Do Dental Implants need extra aftercare?

Once the dental implants have been fitted and the crown attached, we would advise you to ease your way back into your eating regime. It is unwise to bite hard substances straight away. However, it should not be long before you are able to resume your regular eating habits. Should clean your teeth and floss as normal to ensure good oral health.

How long will Dental Implants last?

This will depend on a number of factors such as whether you smoke or follow a good oral care hygiene regime. With regular visits to a dentist and hygienist, it is possible that your dental implants could last up to a lifetime.
