Sometimes a tooth requires more than a white filling. If a tooth at the back of the mouth has decayed to a point where a normal tooth filling may not be adequate enough to provide protection, then a dental inlay will be recommended. Just like a filling, dental inlays are applied to the top surface of the tooth and the material used is hard wearing.

Inlay and Onlay Procedure

Your dentist will apply a local anesthetic before preparing the tooth for the dental inlay. The application requires skilled hands in order to shape the inlay as perfectly as possible and the colour of the material used will match the damaged tooth so that the resulting restoration appears as natural as it can.

Dental Onlays

Dental onlays repair the outside of the tooth. It may not be necessary to repair the tooth with a dental crown as the tooth is only partially damaged or chipped. Our dentist will then recommend a dental onlay instead and the treatment process is similar to that of a dental inlay.
